Why Binaural Beats Help with ADD & ADHD

4

There has been a fair amount of scientific study to date on using brainwave entrainment and binaural beats to help people who have ADD and ADHD. It has been shown over and over again that listening to very specific brainwave audios do help and can make quite a big difference in improving ones focus and concentration.

It is known that people with ADD or ADHD tend to have more of a certain brainwave frequency than is necessary. Their brainwaves are not balanced and consequently focus and concentration become very difficult and scattered.

Studies have shown that those with ADD or ADHD tend to have very low levels of the Beta frequency and an excess of Theta wave activity in the brain. Beta waves are associated with concentration and mental alert consciousness and are very important in order to be able to process new tasks.

How can Binaural Beats Help?

Binaural beats and other forms of brainwave entrainment such as isochronic tones work directly with the brain frequencies. One frequency is presented to one ear and a second different frequency is presented to the other ear.

The brain, upon hearing these two frequencies, will automatically create a third frequency that will be the difference between the original two presented. In this way we are able to control what frequency range the brain is experiencing. Please see our post titled What are Binaural Beats to learn more about how this works.

If a person has too low of one frequency and too much of another, binaural beats are an easy way to keep the brainwave frequencies controlled and functioning in a balanced manner.

Binaural beats are 100% safe and are an excellent alternative to try as opposed to using drugs which can have all sorts of side effects.

Positive Effects of Using Binaural Beats

  • Sharper focus
  • Stronger concentration
  • Improved memory
  • Deeper sleep as well as easier to fall asleep
  • A better sense of well-being
  • The ability to reach altered states of consciousness
  • and lots more.

Are the Effects Long Lasting?

What is known is that binaural beats have shown to be immediately effective in helping some people with ADD and ADHD. The studies and the technology are still fairly new so it is not known if the positive effects are long lasting. However the results are all positive and many practitioners believe that at some point after using binaural beats and brainwave entrainment software for a length of time, the brain will make a switch and operate in a more balanced way without the external stimuli.

Time will tell as the studies are ongoing. One thing that seems to be for sure is that those with ADD and ADHD have seen some very positive results from using binaural beats on a regular basis.

Although there are many different options for binaural beats, The Unexplainable Store is known to have one of the best Attention Disorder brainwave audios out there.  It uses a solid Alpha frequency which will give way to the Beta frequency when required and has been proven effective in treatment of Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity.

    Hi,

I have an 8 year old son who has been diagnosed with ADHD and as an alternative to medicine I am researching Binaural Beat therapy. I read your site and you do not suggest children should listen unless supervised by a practitioner. I would like to know the harm listening might cause. Can you please elaborate on your findings?

      Hi Joann,
As far as I understand the only reason given for children not to use binaural beats is because they are at a higher risk for seizures and it is possible for an external stimuli such as binaural beats to trigger a seizure in a child. However from what I have read the risk is very minimal and it can be just as likely that a seizure in a child is triggered from TV and video games. I am definitely not an expert on children using binaural beats though and would suggest checking with a medical practitioner beforehand if you decide to go ahead and try binaural beat therapy with your son.
Hope that helps. Good luck to you.

I got to be honest.. this Binaural beats, and the Isochronic Tones has worked wonders in my life. (And I’ve only been doing it for 2-3 days)

I mean, the minute I put the High Beta tones on, I could feel the left side of my brain spark up… its like I was awakened to the other part of myself.. very scary.

After using the High-Beta Frequencies, my concentration has been through the roof. I mean there used to be times where I would read a whole paragraph, or maybe 4-5 paragraphs and at the end, not be able to point out the key points in what I read but now everything just flows.

Anyone with concentration problems or ADHD, get on biaural beats (I prefer the Isochronic tones) and use it twice a day, I’m confident you will see a big change in your concentration, and overall processing.
